The annual Met Gala – the annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and opening ceremony for the institute’s annual fashion exhibit – is always one of my favourite events of the year and this year was no exception, particularly as the theme of the 2015 event was China: Through the Looking Glass.

I waited with baited breath to see just how this would be translated into the dress code of those attending and we were all kept far from disappointment.

Rihanna literally dominated the red carpet in her bright yellow Guo Pei dress complete with a cascading train, whilst Karen Elson swept in wearing an instantly recognisable Dolce and Gabbanna Alta Moda gown exuding the elegance and grace of Geisha’s. Sarah Jessica Parker too truly embraced the theme in a giant crown of flames and a floor length embroidered dress.

The award for the bravest outfits of the evening however, truly belonged to Kim Kardashian who wowed in sheer Roberto Cavalli leaving little to the imagination, though Beyonce left even less in her near naked creation by Givency, disproving the air brushing rumours once and for all as she demonstrated just how perfect her figure truly is.

Both beg the question of how far will the stars of next year’s event go to shock and wow the crowds at the Annual Met Gala.
